President Bush Signs H.R. 4040 Product Safety Legislation
On Thursday, August 14th, President George Bush signed into law the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, an expansive consumer product safety measure that includes tough new standards for lead and phthalates in products designed for children aged 12 and younger. Among its myriad of provisions, the new law calls for mandatory safety testing and labeling requirements, creates a public database of unsafe products and expands the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s role in ensuring the safety of consumer products, especially those designed for children.
