Suffolk County, New York, Enacts Landmark Ban on Bisphenol A
The first-in-the-United States ban on children's beverage containers which contain Bisphenol A (BPA) has been enacted by Suffolk County, New York. Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy signed the landmark legislation on Thursday, April 2nd. "Children's beverage container" is defined as any bottle, cup, cup lid, straw or other container intended to be used by children under the age of three (3) years for the consumption of liquids. The legislation bans such products containing BPA within Suffolk County, located on Long Island, New York. The ban, which does not apply to canned food or beverage containers, will take effect on the 90th day after it is filed in the New York Office of the Secretary of State. Read more.
