Tough Food Safety Standards Announced by White House
The White House, on Tuesday July 7, 2009, announced key findings of the Food Safety Working Group. The administration will toughen food safety standards to limit salmonella and E.Coli contamination and to build a better tracking system for contaminated products. Vice President Joe Biden said, “There are few responsibilities more basic or more important for the government than making sure the food our families eat is safe.” The administration has also created a new post of Deputy Food Commissioner for Safety.
The FDA also announced a regulation aimed at reducing salmonella contamination from raw or undercooked eggs by nearly 60%.
