US Agriculture Sec. response to NYT story on E. coli highlights food supply chain challenges

On October 3, The New York Times published a tragic story detailing how a Minnesota woman was found to have a severe form of food-borne illness caused by E. coli, which officials traced to the hamburger that her mother had grilled for their Sunday dinner in early fall 2007.

On October 5, US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack responded by saying: "The story we learned about over the weekend is unacceptable and tragic. We all know we can and should do more to protect the safety of the American people and the story in this weekend's paper will continue to spur our efforts to reduce the incidence of E. coli O157:H7.
