California Lights Law to Take Effect in 2010
Prohibitions under the California Lighting Efficiency and Toxics Reduction Act, enacted into law October 12, 2007, are set to take effect in the new year. Beginning January 1, 2010, it is prohibited to manufacture for sale, sell or offer for sale in the state of California specified general purpose lights that contain levels of hazardous substances prohibited by the European Union pursuant to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive. Proposed Labeling Requirements for Light Bulbs
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has proposed new labeling requirements for lamps, commonly referred to as "light bulbs," in response to a congressional mandate. The proposed labels would provide consumers with clear, easily understandable information to help them choose among different bulb types, such as compact fluorescent light bulbs and light-emitting diode products, as traditional incandescent bulbs are phased out.
