• Industry Groups, Nutrition Experts Debate Health Risks of Sugars
The Corn Refiners Association has launched a major advertising campaign to improve the image of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), in response to the American Heart Association's recent statement on the health risks of consuming too much sugar, HFCS, and other caloric sweeteners. Read more.
• Industry Responds to Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010
The dietary supplement industry has voiced concerns over some provisions in the proposed Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010, which would require manufacturers to register with the FDA and disclose a full list of ingredients contained in each supplement. Read more.

• CPSC Approves Final Rule on Civil Penalties
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently voted to adopt a final rule which explains more fully how civil penalties will be determined and imposed for violations of the statutes enforced by the Commission. Read more.
• Standard and Seal Established for "Natural" Home Care Products
The Natural Products Association (NPA) recently introduced a Standard and Certification Program for Home Care Products that provides a set of guidelines to determine whether a product can be deemed truly "natural."

• European Commission Extends Prohibition on DMFu
The European Commission recently issued a decision prolonging the validity of Decision 2009/251/EC requiring Member States to ensure that products containing the biocide dimethylfumarate are not placed or made available on the market until March 15, 2011. Read more.

• Private Label Expected to Remain Strong After Recession
A recent survey concluded that recession-driven behaviors, including a shift to less-expensive store brands, are likely to continue even after the economy improves, with more than half (55%) of all respondents saying they would rather get the best price than the best brand.

• New Directive - ErP Directive (2009/125/EC)
The EuP Directive is subsequently replaced by the ErP Directive 2009/125/EC published on October 31, 2009, with an extended scope covering all energy-related products. The ErP Directive has taken effect since November 20, 2009. Read more.
